My most recent book was about God. Taking Back God: American Women Rising Up for Religous Equality was published in 2009. I continue to lecture and speak with the media about the activism of women of faith who want to be treated as equals in their religious communities.

So what comes next after God? Shoes!

My new book, Bad Shoes & The Women Who Love Them (Seven Stories Press; Mother’s Day 2010), is a fun, adorable treat for any woman who loves her shoes. (To some women, it seems, their shoes are their god.)

Tip Top Shoes, a popular store on west 72nd Street in New York City, is going to host a big launch event on the evening of May 5th from 6-8pm. I hope you will be able to join me. I will speak briefly and then the owner of the store, Danny Wasserman, will answer questions about shoes. There will be "goodie bags" (I can't write that without smiling) for the guests with fun free giveaways and an opportunity to shop. We hope to make the evening a fun, exciting event gaining lots of attention for the book.

Bad Shoes is a lighthearted wakeup call to women to make smart choices when buying and wearing fashionable shoes. My message is: Ladies, please be judicious with your heels! Otherwise you will cause long-term damage to your feet. The book also explores the significance of shoes, the psychology behind the foot fetish, the history of foot binding, the feminist critique and celebration of high heels, and the evolution of elevated footwear.

I hope to see you on May 5. Wishing you a happy Passover, Easter, or spring,

Leora
